Canadians to Finance Minister: “We support your reforms.” Over 14,000 signatures on open letter to Morneau.

Media Release

Momentum is growing as over 14,000 Canadians tired of anti-tax hype speak out.

Ottawa, September 27, 2017 – Over 14,000 Canadians from across the country have signed the message to Minister Morneau stating: “We support your reforms to start making the wealthy pay their fair share in tax. These loopholes have let a small group of very wealthy Canadians take advantage of a system that wasn't meant to be used as a tax shelter for the rich.“

“These loopholes are being taken advantage of by a small number of privileged individuals.” says Dennis Howlett, Executive Director of Canadians for Tax Fairness, “Canadians across the country are obviously very concerned about the high level of inequality that is dragging down our economic growth and wellbeing.” He adds: “This is an important step, but it is a small step and there are a lot of other changes needed for real tax fairness.”

Ordinary people across the country — including students, farmers, doctors, and small business owners — are signing onto this petition at the rate of over 1000 per day,” says Brittany Smith, a campaigner with Leadnow,  “This shows that people want to see the wealthy pay their fair share in tax. These reforms are a good start."

The Leadnow community is made up of over 400,000 members across the country in defense of a just, sustainable, and equitable Canada.

Canadians for Tax Fairness is a national citizens’ group that advocates for a modern, effective and fair tax system.
