Tax Dodge a new documentary produced by award-winning journalist Bruce Livesey will air on the Global Television Network program 16x9 this Saturday, November 23 at 7pm.
Canada has the lowest corporate tax rate in the G7. But that’s not good enough for some Canadian businesses.
They use aggressive accounting practices and set up subsidiaries in other countries for the sole purpose of paying less tax. The practice is often (not always) done legally. This trend points to flaws in the Canadian Tax Code and the skewed sense of entitlement of some major Canadian companies.
It also calls into question the Conservative government’s commitment to fair taxation.
Livesey explores some of these practices and blows the cover on the actual tax rate being paid by some of Canada’s largest companies.
Canadians for Tax Fairness Executive Director Dennis Howlett appears in the documentary along with Liberal Senator Percy Downe, a long-time tax haven critic.
Tune in. It is a great way to find out more about the shifty world of tax havens and how Canadians are involved.
