Cut the costs, tax the rich!

Facts

basket of food in grocery store

The cost of living crisis in our country is out of control, food bank use is at record highs, and millions of Canadians are feeling stretched, if not struggling, to cover the basics. Meanwhile, corporate profits continue to skyrocket and the wealthiest among us have the lowest tax burden, driving inequality to all-time highs.

While 20 percent of Canadians say they’ve had to skip paying at least one bill to afford groceries this year, the top 10 billionaire families grew their combined wealth by a whopping 20 percent to $310 billion.

Something has got to give.

A progressive wealth tax on net worth over $10 million would affect only 0.6 per cent of Canadians, help fix soaring inequality, and raise over $37 billion in the first year.

This much-needed revenue could go towards policies that take crushing costs off of everyday people’s backs — like building affordable housing or finally delivering universal pharmacare.

Send a message to Ottawa now: It’s time for a wealth tax in Canada to fairly share prosperity and fight billionaire greed!
