Too many Canadians are missing out on government benefits because they’re not filing their taxes, according to the latest report from the Office of the Taxpayers Ombudsman, an independent body that reviews the Canada Revenue Agency.
It warned that individuals who aren’t filing taxes aren’t receiving critical benefits such as income supplements for seniors or the Canada Child Benefit for parents.
Fortunately, there’s a straightforward solution that can help address this problem: Get CRA to automatically file a return that can be revised by the taxpayer if needed.
