This tax season and year-round, wealth inequality is out of control in Canada. So why are most Canadians paying more every year, while the ultra-rich pay less?
Tell your MP it’s time to tax the rich:
- A new federal bracket taxing income over $1 million at 37% would affect only 43,000 Canadians, help deter outsized salaries, and raise $1.3 billion annually
- Money is money, and you shouldn't be taxed differently depending on how you earn it—close the capital gains loophole and end the 50% discount on income that comes from wealth instead of work
- A progressive wealth tax (1% tax on net wealth above $10 million, 2% on $50 million, and 3% on $100 million) would raise over $39 billion in the first year and nearly half a trillion dollars over 10 years
This revenue could go towards urgent priorities like building affordable housing, safeguarding and strengthening Canadian medicare, protecting Canadian sovereignty, and tackling the cost-of-living crisis millions of Canadians are facing.
