A new study out of the U.K. has provided further proof that corporate tax cuts have been a multi-billion-dollar failure.
For the third year in a row, Canadian corporate executives made more than 200 times the average worker’s salary, according to the annual CEO compensation report by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.
Analysis by Canadians for Tax Fairness reveals that 34 large Canadian corporations have record high profits during the first three quarters of 2020. [1] These companies added a combined $8.1 billion to their bottom lines. Record profits have allowed these companies to increase their cash holdings by $11 billion.

Important commitments for tax fairness in Throne Speech
It’s not only financial institutions that enable illicit activity, but weak government policies.
The total amount Canadian corporations reported in their top 12 tax havens soared to a record high of $381 billion in 2019. Despite political pressure following international scandals such as the Panama Papers and repeated promises from governments to get tough on tax havens, analysis of Statistics Canada’s latest foreign direct investment data shows that use of tax havens by Canadian corporations keeps on rising.
